HCA is the Human Cell Atlas project that aims to create comprehensive reference maps of all human cells as a basis for both understanding human health and diagnosing, monitoring and treating diseases. It is a big international project established by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), with scientists of multiple disciplines of biology, informatics and technology participating from all over the world. On October 16, 2017, CZI funded 38 pilot projects to help build new technologies, best practices, and data analysis techniques for the Human Cell Atlas. Among them Dr. Xuegong Zhang at Tsinghua University is leading the project for systematic assessment of single-cell RNA sequencing protocols, datasets and analysis methods. The project will analyze the bioinformatics landscape of single-cell sequencing analysis to support community benchmarks that will inform future improvements. This project represents the participation of Chinese scientists in HCA, and will play as a hub for more Chinese scientists to contribute in the project with their unique biological resources, expertise and techniques.
